GreenBroz Frequently Asked Questions
The following list represents the most frequently asked questions received by GreenBroz. Should you find your question is not listed below, simply call 844.DRY.TRIM or email Info@GreenBroz.com with your question and we will answer your inquiry as soon as possible.
WHY DRY TRIM?
Dry trimming offers many benefits over wet trimming.
Unlike wet trimming, dry trimming limits the spread of mold and microbial growth. Testing labs and other experts report that an 8% moisture level, or lower, protects against mold growth.
Moreover, terpenes and trichomes are better preserved in properly dried product, protecting the premium fragrance and potency of the flower. The GreenBroz Dry Trimmer uses a patented blade design which will safeguard trichomes and the flowers’ natural curves and contours.
WHY MACHINE TRIM?
Trimming with a GreenBroz Dry Trimmer is fast, cost-effective, efficient, and consistent. The end product is nearly identical to that of hand trimmed. Additionally, the chance of microbial contamination is greatly reduced in machine trimmed product.
Automating your harvest allows for great flexibility and more control in terms of staffing; after all, your equipment will be ready when you are!
Our trimmers will generally pay for themselves in less than 2 days of use. Please take a look at the ROI and Employment Cost Savings Calculator on our website to see how using the patented GBZ trimmer will save you time, money, and labor!
HOW DOES THE GREENBROZ DRY TRIMMER PERFORM?
Magnificently! GreenBroz Dry Trimmers are designed to automate the trimming process while rivaling the beauty of hand trimmed flowers. GreenBroz trimmers are quiet, quick, and the gentlest on the market. They work with a gentle rolling action, maintaining the organic beauty of the flower. GBZ trimmers do not have the vertical drop of other machines that will knock off the trichomes, nor do they shave your flowers into a golf ball or cone shape.
With GreenBroz trimmers, the operator is in complete control at all times; you can see and work with your product as it gently trims. You decide when it is done.
IS THERE MORE THAN ONE SIZE?
GreenBroz offers 2 sizes of Dry Trimmers. The 215 table top model and the 420 commercial model.
• The 215 Dry Trimmer runs up to 1 lb at a time, up to 4 lbs per hour – 32 lbs in an 8-hour shift.
• The 420 Dry Trimmer runs 2 to 4 lbs at a time, approximately 8-12 lbs per hour.
Average run time per load, on both our 215 and 420 models, is 10 to 15 minutes.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOUR BUD FOR THE TRIMMER?
Hang dry until a 7 to 8% internal moisture level is achieved. When the outer leaf is crispy and the stems are snapping, you are ready to remove the buds from the stems. Cut the flowers close to the stem and load directly into the machine.
If possible, sort the flowers so that comparable sizes are trimming at the same time.
HOW MUCH CLEANUP IS LEFT PER POUND?
This depends on your personal preference. Some cultivators trim 50% to 70% and then finish with a hand trim to advertise a hand trimmed product. Others trim to a 95% finish and pinch off the small amount of crows feet and leaves at the time of packaging.
WHERE DOES THE TRIM GO?
The trim falls into the trim tray drawer under the 215. The 420 stand is designed to fit a large plastic bag or tote underneath the trim chute.
DOES IT KNOCK OFF THE TRICHOMES?
Independent comparison tests done by our customers show that there is negligible trichome loss when comparing hand trimmed and GreenBroz automated trimmed flowers.
Independent test results are available for your review HERE.
IS THERE A KIEF COLLECTOR?
There is no kief collector in the GBZ trimmers. GreenBroz does offer a fantastic, dry sift, kief extractor called The Alchemist.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE GBZ TRIMMER NEED TO BE CLEANED?
We suggest that the GBZ Dry Trimmer be cleaned on a regular basis. How often, depends on how much residue the user sees in the unit. Most people clean it at the end of every work day, others prefer to clean it in between strains and some go several days between cleanings. You will notice, unlike wet trimmers and many other dry trimmers, there will not be a smearing of plant material, making it much easier to maintain. Power washing, acetone, switching blades every 20 minutes, and hours of cleaning are NOT necessary.
GreenBroz recommends using the GreenBroz Resin Clear to clean your Dry Trimmers. Our Resin Clear is all-natural, odor-free and plant-based. You can use this oil to easily remove plant residue and protect your surfaces from residue build up.
CAN YOU SIZE THE FLOWERS?
To obtain optimal results we suggest that you trim similar size flowers together to promote consistency and level trim time. However, if this is not possible, you can separate the smaller buds, while trimming, by partially opening the hopper door and allowing the smaller flowers to roll into a separate bin while leaving the larger ones in the trimmer to finish.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN THE GBZ TRIMMER AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Power washing, acetone, switching blades every 20 minutes, and hours of cleaning are NOT necessary. All that you’ll need is some GreenBroz Resin Clear, metal paint scraper, microfiber and about 10-15 minutes of your time. There is a detailed video HERE which walks you through the cleaning process.
*Note that the video refers to oil and alcohol as cleaning products. You can replace those instances with the GreenBroz Resin Clear. We will have this tutorial updated soon!
WHAT ARE THE TRIMMERS MADE OUT OF?
All GBZ products are made from food safe materials. Stainless steel and microbial resistant high-density polyethylene (HDPE), also used for kitchen cutting boards.
WHAT ARE THE POWER REQUIREMENTS?
• 215 Dry Trimmer: 115v, 60Hz, 25W, .4 Amp
• 420 Dry Trimmer: 115v, 60Hz, 40W, .7 Amp (with DC Motor: 115v, 60Hz, 230W, 2 Amp)
DO THE BLADES NEED TO BE SHARPENED?
No, our blades do not get sharpened. We do recommend replacing the blades, depending on the amount of use, in 6 months to 2 years.
WHAT MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED?
Some of the parts are consumable. For example, you may want to replace the brush, the Teflon rings or the sweeper bar as they begin to wear over time.
DO YOU RECOMMEND LUBRICATION? IF SO, WITH WHAT?
GreenBroz employs the use of a Teflon ring between the two blades, vastly decreasing friction. However, a very minimal amount of lubrication is recommended. Should you choose to use a minimal amount of lubricant, simply remove the top blade, apply three small drops around the edges of the bottom blade, and replace the top blade. Apply the drops equidistant from each other (think of the points of a triangle).
GreenBroz Resin Clear is the natural choice for this solution. The GreenBroz Resin Clear is an all-natural, odor-free, plant-based CLP oil that can clean, lubricate and protect your harvesting equipment. Should you not have any GreenBroz Resin Clear handy, use a light, refined, organic oil, such as Canola, Sunflower, Grape Seed, Hemp, or Avocado.
WHAT IS THE REVERSE SWITCH FOR?
Using the reverse switch will shear any stems that may get trapped between the blades and get your flowers gently rolling again.
CAN YOU JUST SET THE TIMER AND COME BACK LATER?
Yes. However, we recommend that there is an operator working the machine to monitor the progress of the trim.
WHAT IS THE BRUSH FOR?
The brush is designed to promote the rolling action of the flower, gently turning them.
There are two ways to use it.
One can set the brush in a tightened ‘fixed’ position just at the tops of the flowers. As the product trims, you will notice the volume decrease and will need to reposition the brush.
Some prefer to leave the brush loose so that it rises and falls over the flowers on its own.
WHAT IS THE SAFETY SWITCH FOR?
The safety switch is designed to prevent the machine from running with the lid open.
WHAT IS THE RETURN POLICY?
GreenBroz does not accept returns of used machines. We are available in most areas, to offer live demonstrations prior to purchase and we are happy to coach you on getting optimal results from our equipment. If a defect were to occur, we will replace parts and or come on site, as available, to make repairs.
WHAT DOES THE WARRANTY COVER?
The warranty covers all non-consumable parts for one year. GreenBroz has an extended warranty option available that adds two years, (for a 3-year warranty) at an additional cost of $500. We, at GreenBroz, have a reputation for standing behind our machines and for excellent customer service.
